The problem

Having a good relationship with healthy food and a balanced diet can be really overwhelming and difficult at times, making it impossible to achieve for some people. No more boring lectures about nutrition and no more losing motivation.

Project vision

Nutrizen is a cross-platform way to help tutor adults in nutrition. It has a lot of features that make learning and discovering nutrition fun and enjoyable: fun lessons about good nutrition and quizzes, healthy recipes, daily tracker and a community where everyone can share their thoughts and progress.

Pain points

Time

Young adults and adults are too busy to waste their time searching for every information about nutrition and still be confused about it.

Navigation

Platforms that help you with nutrition can be confusing and overwhelming. It should be easy and straightforward so users can have a clean navigation.

Information

Sometimes platforms don't offer all the information a person needs and makes the user go through a lot of pages and websites. It should all be on one platform.

Experience

Most platforms that offer information about nutrition can be boring and make learning new stuff a bad experience. It should be fun and enjoyable.

Tatiana is an intelligence analyst working in Portugal. She never fully cared about her health and body until now. She's not feeling good about herself and wants to make a big change in her life, starting with eating healthy. Tatiana wants to find an easy and fun way to search and try new foods and exercises and enjoy herself.
Nutrizen's persona 2: Gustavo Ribas.

Gustavo Ribas

Paper wireframes

Drawing the paper wireframes made sure that the elements of the digital wireframes were well thought out and would suit the user's pain points.

Usability studies

Round 1 findings

- Users need a way to filter the discussion topics in the community;

- Users need/want more important information, like popular discussion topics, to appear in the homepage.

- Users want to be able to add info to the daily tracker from the homepage;

- Users need a more eye-catching and visually appealing class/learn space in the homepage.

Round 2 findings

- Users need a home button in all pages instead of always going to the menu to do it;

- Users need a button to join discussion after the quiz is completed;

- Users need the opacity of locked lessons lowered down so it doesn't confuse them.

Sitemap

With the app design completed, I started to create the sitemap to guide the organizational structure of each screen's design to ensure a cohesive and consistent experience across devices.

Responsive designs

The designs for screen variation included mobile, tablet and desktop. The designs were optimized to fit specific user needs of each device and screen size.

Takeaways

The Nutrizen cross-platform makes users feel like they can learn in a fun and exciting way, keep track of their progress and share their thoughts with others who are going through the same as them.Quotes from participants:

Fun to use, love the quiz!
Clean and simple, makes me wanna use it.

When I started designing the Nutrizen cross-platform I was afraid I wasn't going to make something that could meet the users needs because it was a big challenge, but I quickly understood that I needed to think about each user's needs at a time and progressively come up with solutions. This process allowed me to create something that meets what users want and need.

Next steps

If I were to continue this project my next step would be to conduct another usability study to confirm if the changes made after the last one met the users pain point previously identified.

I'd also add new features in the platform to keep it updated and interactive.

Lastly, I'd try to implement rewards because they're great motivators to keep users interested in learning and having fun with nutrition.
